The curtains were closed, blocking the outside world from his view. Greg had gotten tired of the hustle and bustle of the outside world, the honking cars and bright lights that only made his eyes strain. While the muted colors of his one-room apartment seemed oppressive and dull, they were easier to digest than anything else. Standing up, he hobbled over to his kitchen counter, pen in hand, and tore a fresh sheet of lined paper from his notebook. His mind was as clear as a foggy day, sentences and thoughts flowing through his head like schools of fish. Laying his arm on the counter and his pen on the page, his thoughts began to flow through the ink....

Whoever is reading this, I can understand your confusion and distress, and I sympathize with you. If it helps at all, I'm confused as well. I never thought I would get to this point, but here I am today. If you take a moment to think about it, though, not much has changed. I'm still here, between four walls, and I feel the same as I did before all of this. I suppose I owe an explanation, though. / Ever since I came here, ever since I made a life of my own, I've had a pit in my gut that I couldn't get rid of. And to this day, I'm not sure what it is. My best guess is a feeling of isolation, or hopelessness, or anger, or depression, or any other negative feeling you could think of. I just can't stand them. I have always been afraid to leave my real home, to grow up, to be independent, and over time I've realized all of my fears were correct. I've been stuck in this city working a cheap 9 to 5 for years, yet I can't name you even one of my coworkers. They're all just empty faces, husks of humans that I can't seem to get to know, despite my greatest efforts. Who knows, maybe it's because they feel the same as I do. I just wish I knew for sure....

I've grown accustomed to the dull colors that surround me. They're comforting, in a way, yet oppressive. Better than what's outside, I guess. Everything is so loud and abrasive, it makes me sick. Everyone seems so content, and I just can't understand why. I want to feel that way, like when I was younger. The world seemed so bright and limitless, there wasn't a single thing for me to worry about, I was happy in ignorance. I feel as if I've learned too much, and I just can't bear the knowledge anymore. My head is so full, like a nest of angry hornets, and they haven't calmed down since the day I turned 18. I need to make them stop, and this is the only way I can think of doing so. This is no one's fault but my own, and by that same token it's my decision entirely. I'm sorry to everyone, I know this will be hard to digest. But in the grand scheme of things. once this is done, everything will be the same. That I can promise....
